Day 10: Oslo, Thursday, June 23

Most of the group today took a cruise across the harbor to Bygdey peninsula to check out some more museums related to seafaring history, but we elected to do our own thing instead, seeking out some local curiosities such as the miniature bronze statues of Grass Roots Square (top two pics), the mysterious Devil of Oslo sculpture attached to a central church (lower left) and the very informative, if a little bit antiquated Resistance museum with an assortment of meticulously constructed dioramas (lower right). We walked through the Central Park and harbor and then took some time to enjoy the impressive National museum with several Edvard Munch paintings and evocative illustrations rooted in Scandinavian folklore such as the famous troll illustrations by Theodor Kittelson such as ominous mountain creature below.
